Our History

I am Rick Joyce, owner of Prison City Bloodhounds. I have a lifelong history of working with a wide variety of dogs - German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Belgian Malinois, English Setter bird dogs, Red Bones, Blue Tics, Black and Tan Coon dogs, and Bloodhounds… some for sport, some for law enforcement. While working at the K-9 unit at the Lansing Correctional Facility, I assisted local police, area sheriff departments, and the military. I've led my dogs on successful searches for lost individuals, escaped convicts, and helped the KC Metro-Squad on a highly publicized murder case.

Mission

We are investing our resources into the breeding and training of bloodhounds used for Search & Rescue services. It is our goal to produce and train the highest quality animals to be donated to law enforcement and search and rescue departments that do not have the adequate budget to afford such dogs.

Acknowledgement

We practice an all-inclusive team based concept, meaning: Each person involved in our Search & Rescue operation is equally important. Our group comprises of the dog handler, a dietitian, kennel staff, trainers, scent-trail-runners, the veterinary staff members, legal staff, accountant, website designer, and the breeders. As well, we consider a local Leathersmith, who manufactures our custom made K-9 running belts, a valued team supporter. Together, as a team, we make our business a successful organization.

Disclaimer

The services we provide are currently limited to the above Mission Statement and, unless special circumstances apply, we will no longer offer an operative in the field other than an active role as a Search Coordinator or advisor. If your department would like to build your own K-9 Search & Rescue unit, you can apply to receive a donated bloodhound, and we will be proud to assist your staff in completing the dog’s training.
